17 Fixations = 17 small articles about/essays on/loving paeans to 17 particular joys, great or small, in the lives of your editrix and any number of guest fixators.

I've been working on issue one of another zine, Tour, for over a year like three years now. It's gotten so much too big for its britches that it may never happen - so much library research I have to do! It's unbelievable how I complicate things for myself! 17F = antidote. Once there are 17 fixations in the folder, out goes the zine. Next issue starts: now.

I skip from fixation to fixation in my everyday life, fastening on some new thing and loving it ardently (and, often, spending quantities of money as a result) and then moving on to the next thing. I never entirely forget previous fixations, and often return to them, though nothing is quite so gladsome as discovering the White Stripes or homemade tortillas for the first time. Here: celebration of the initial thrill, rumination on the mature love, dissection of the infinitesimal, an excuse to use many-syllabled words and talk too much.

(The funniest part about this whole thing, of course, is that the previous three paragraphs were written round about fall 2000 (when the White Stripes were still a relatively rare discovery), since which time they have been gathering mothballs. The best intentions, &c. I really did want to make this a paper zine. As of now, I'm just happy that it's someplace besides my hard drive. And who knows, maybe someday... yeah.)
